WiFi in the Magic Kingdom & the New Mobile App

As of Aug. 1st, guests who visit the Magic Kingdom can now take advantage of free Wi-Fi throughout the theme park.  Disney also plans to provide free Wi-Fi at all four theme parks and the Downtown Disney area by early 2013.

You will have to sign in to the public network, called "Disney-Guest," and agreeing to Disney’s terms of use.  You will then be able to use the network to access Disney information online.  But the in park Wi-Fi will not be restricted to Disney content.  You will have full Internet access to post photos, use social networking and browse the Web.

There's a pretty good chance that this is part of a larger plan by Disney, related to the NextGen FastPass system currently under development and the recently announced My Disney Experience app for iPhone and Android devices.

My Disney Experience is a free NextGen mobile app that has already been released for iPhone & iPad users, Android should be expecting it to hit Google Play by the end of the month.  Android Tablets as well as Blackberry and Windows devices can expect My Disney Experience to be available for download this fall.  It will ultimately replace the existing Disney Parks mobile app Mobile Magic in early 2013.

My Disney Experience, like Mobile Magic, is designed to help guests with their park experience, with maps, dining information, park hours, and attraction wait times among its features.  The app is also set to include features that will be used with Disney’s NextGen FASTPASS system that has been going through the testing phase over this past year.

Since I'm a Android user, I haven't been able to give the new app a walk through.  However there is a very extensive review of the iPhone / iPad version over at Inside The Magic.

The availability of complimentary Wi-Fi at Magic Kingdom follows the gradual release of free Wi-Fi for guests staying at Walt Disney World Resorts.
