EPCOT 30th Anniversary Merchandise Preview

EPCOT's anniversary is always a little bit more special to me then possibly most people, since it also marks the anniversary of my first trip to Walt Disney World.  So this fall's celebration of the 30th anniversary of EPCOT is one I’m definitely looking forward to.  It's all going to kick off on October 1, 2012 and Disney has been releasing images of some merchandise they'll be releasing to commemorate the occasion.

New Fantasyland Update: Portraits at Be Our Guest Restaurant & Gaston’s Tavern

Be Our Guest Restaurant and Gaston’s Tavern are easily the most eagerly anticipated restaurants on the Walt Disney World plate right now, and every piece of information about their progress in the Magic Kingdom’s New Fantasyland expansion is definitely sparking a huge amount of interest.

Well they fine folks at Disney have given us a few more tidbits to chew on.

WWE Lets The "ECW" Trademark Expire

I just read a interesting story... it's not mind blowing, but definitely interesting.

Apparently WWE has let the trademark of the three letter term "ECW" expire.  It has already been scooped up by a company in New York, specifically to be used for wrestling.

That being said "Extreme Championship Wrestling" will always be a property of WWE.  The company from New York will only be able to use the 3 letters.

Like I said, it's not the craziest story I've ever read, but it's just kind of odd that they would do that.

Today in WDW History: Splash Mountain Turns 20

July 17th is a pretty big day in Disney History.  This post is going to be focused on the 20th Anniversary of Splash Mountain opening in the Magic Kingdom.  But I wouldn't be a respectable Disney Enthusiast if I didn't mention the 57th Anniversary of Disneyland opening in California on this day in 1955.  It was, after all, the park that started it all.  I've always been more partial towards WDW, mostly due to geography, but one definite thing that California will always have over Florida is that it's the park that Walt actually stepped foot in.  And that's pretty huge, if I do say so myself.

Now, on to that 52-foot drop into the Briar Patch...

“Arrested Development” Starts Shooting in a Month

It’s happening. It’s really, really happening.  Yes, I am absolutely doing a silly happy dance over this news!

Now I admit the fact that 10 new episodes of “Arrested Development” are in the works isn’t really news, but that doesn't mean I don't get a little more excited every time I get a glimmer of the new TV series (and possibly movie) actually becoming a reality.

Free Disney Dining Plan for Fall 2012

Walt Disney World has released the Free Disney Dining Plan offer to all guests staying at a Disney Resort between the dates specified below.  I actually called today and upgraded my reservation in November, at no extra charge... which is always a huge bonus!

New Fantasyland Update: Prince Eric’s Castle

One of the coolest things about the New Fantasyland expansion, and one of the aspects I'm most looking forward to seeing when I visit the Magic Kingdom this fall, is that Walt Disney Imagineering (WDI) is adding two brand new Disney castles... Beast’s Castle, which will be the home to Be Our Guest Restaurant, and Prince Eric’s Castle, which will serve as the backdrop to the Under the Sea - Journey of The Little Mermaid attraction.

New Fantasyland Update: Chef of Be Our Guest Reveals the Menu

As we get closer and closer to the opening of more sections in the New Fantasyland (Storybook Circus began opening back in March and completed twith the second Flying Dumbo taking to the air a couple weeks ago) we are finding out more great details about the upcoming attractions.  One of the attractions I'm most excited to see is the Be Our Guest restaurant, that will be located in Beast's Castle and will encompass three separate dining areas... the ballroom, gallery, and mysterious West Wing of the castle.

Walt Disney World Reopenings & Closings (for refurbishment)

There has been one big reopening and a few upcoming closings for refurbishment around Walt Disney World.

Let's start with the big reopening...  After six month of refurbishing Big Thunder Mountain Railroad has reopened with a couple changes.  As you approach the Frontierland attraction, you'll notice that the Fast Pass and Stand-By entrances have been switched.  The Stand-By queue has been lengthened by quite a bit leaving open the possibility of additional props to be added to the waiting area.  I'm looking forward to taking a trip on the Railroad myself, but I've read from those that have rode it since the reopen and the consensus is that the ride is much smoother.

Today in WDW History: WEDWay PeopleMover Opened

The PeopleMover definitely holds a special spot in my heart.  I have very few actual memories from my first visit to Walt Disney World.  It was 1983 and I was 4-years-old, so pictures and family movies have been my main source of memory recall.  But there is one very distinct memory forever burned in my brain, and it was my Grandfather's reaction to Space Mountain.  He was a great sport to come along on the thrill ride with me.  So being the good Grandson that I am, after shaking him up on Space Mountain I was more than willing to dial down the intensity for the next attraction.  The WEDway PeopleMover was just what the doctor ordered.  Not only did it give my Grandparents a breather from the the thrills of chasing a little me around the Magic Kingdom, but it peaked the interest of the budding sightseer in me being able to tour around Tomorrowland.
