“Carbon-Freeze Me” comes to Walt Disney World for Star Wars Weekends 2012
As a kid, and still as an adult, I'm a huge Star Wars fan. I've seen the movies countless times, had a army of toys when I was younger, and was even C-3PO for Halloween when I was six-years-old (home-made costume, not some cheaply made store bought one). My favorite of the films always has, and always will be The Empire Strikes Back.
So naturally I was overly excited to here of the possibility of having my own likeness frozen in carbonite, like Han Solo in the film. Well I have the fine folks at Disney to thank for making it a reality.
Beginning May 18, 2012 guests attending the Star Wars Weekends at Walt Disney World will have a chance to be captured by Darth Vader, frozen in carbonite, and mounted inside Jabba the Hutt’s palace.
That iconic moment from EMPIRE in which Han Solo undergoes carbon freezing is being recreated as part of Disney's new Carbon-Freeze Me experience, developed specifically for the annual Star Wars Weekends event at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
Those of you attending Star Wars Weekends this year will be given the opportunity to step into a Carbon Freezing Chamber (located across from The American Idol Experience) and have your faces scanned using multiple 3D cameras. I'm just hoping they have the Cast Members dressed up like the Ugnaughts (the pig-like technicians from the movie).
Just like Jabba the Hutt thought... in the words of The Dude, "It really tied the room together." You too will be able to hang your own Carbon-Freeze "piece of art" on a wall. It’s part of Disney’s D-Tech Me line of personalized products.
With thousands of fans attending Star Wars Weekends each year, the new Carbon-Freeze Me experience is definitely going to be a hugely popular attraction. This is why Disney is requiring you to make reservations. You can do so now by calling 407-WDW-TECH (407-939-8324). Due to the popularity of the Weekends' event, the amount of guests expected to attend, and there only being so many hours in a day, it would be smart to assume that Carbon-Freeze Me will be fully booked up within a few days.
Your custom carbonite figurine is going to run you $99.95 (plus tax and shipping). They are also offering you the ability to purchase additional figurines featuring your image for $74.95 each (plus tax and shipping).
Like most of the popular attractions that are time-specific, guests should arrive 10 minutes early and expect the whole process to take approximately 30 minutes, with more time allowed if you need a 2nd or 3rd take to get that perfect facial expression down. It's also been said that your faces must be clean (meaning washed, not shaved - facial hair was not specified) and free of make-up.
The Star Wars Weekends, at Disney's Hollywood Studios, begin on May 18, 2012 and continue on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays through June 10.
May the Force be with you!
