PODCAST: Mike & Billy - Episode 007 (12/27/12)

The show gets started with some Christmas talk and how neither guy has an "Uncle Eddie" relative, which leads into a conversation on how unrealistically Holiday Movies portray every family as beyond-full-blown dysfunctional.

During the Christmas break Mike attempted to create the perfect eggnog.

Mike and Billy discuss how ridiculous it is that Scary Movie 5 and The Haunted House are not only being made and coming out pretty close to each other, but are basically the same exact movie.

Why do the "rich & famous" drunk drive? Both agree the first order of business when they strike it rich is hiring a full-time driver.

The topic of how 24 hour news coverage is brought up... how it's basically what has created the huge market for reality TV, and is responsible for desensitizing us to things like "death videos."  During the reality TV talk, it's brought up that Mike was almost cast in a reality show called, "America's Biggest Asshole." But it was abandoned by SpikeTV due to legal issues.

There may be a "Intern Search" on The Mike & Billy Show in the near future... and don't forget to download the Spreaker app on your Android or iPhone so you can take us everywhere.  We highly recommend "toilet listening."

PODCAST: Mike & Billy - Episode 006 (12/20/12)

Episode #6 gets going with Mike & Billy making light of the technical difficulties they had run into earlier in the evening, which produced another of the infamous "lost shows"... once they're settled in the guys get into some of their upcoming Christmas plans, and Mike's attempt to surprise his finacé with a Christmas tree.

Mike recently took his car in for an oil change and ran into that all too familiar scenario... where the mechanic tries to use the fear of total destruction on Mike to get an up-sell on some repairs. This leads to discussing "Do It Yourself" instructional videos on YouTube.

We learn that Billy wants to have some kids just to pull a Kardashian and exploit his children for fame and fortune... and the guys come up with an idea for a ridiculous reality show, involving Snooki living INSIDE Khloe Kardashian for a week.

Mike and Billy talk a little bit about the tragic shooting in Newtown, CT... but Mike is having a really hard time expressing his feelings in a public setting. They also discuss the pros & cons of social media in when it comes to incidents like this, and how it affects "real life" situations in general.

After some brief WWE and Back To The Future talk, they come to the conclusion that John F. Kennedy should be on some form of US Currency. (A.D.D. - gotta love it)

and they wrap up with some thoughts on Ben Affleck's political aspirations... and Mike proclaims he wants to run for Emperor (or Sultan, he can't decide) of Massachusetts.

We hope you enjoy Episode #6 of The Mike & Billy Show... Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays!

PODCAST: Mike & Billy - Episode 005 (12/11/12)

Episode #5 of The Mike & Billy Show gets off and running with Billy telling us about the car accident he was in the night before.  The heavy traffic that he was in was mostly due to the Monday Night Football game, at Gillette Stadium, between the Patriots & Texans... this gets the guys talking about Fantasy Football and the NHL Lockout.

Mike's desire to get a DeLorean working to go back in time and put a stop to Gary Bettman (NHL Commissioner) brings up the conversation about Mattel releasing the Hoverboards from Back To The Future Part II, just in time for the Christmas season.

The song takes a serious turn as the guys talk about a news story out of Pennsylvania, involving two of "the worst parents EVER" as Mike put it.

To cleanse themselves after the last topic and to go out on a much lighter note.  Without worrying about the smoothness of his segueing, Mike shifts gears with the grace of a throat punch.

Mike & Billy wrap up the show discussing the topic of British comedy TV shows, "Peep Show" in particular, and how there should be an option with American cable companies so you can receive networks from other countries.

All that and more of the usual A.D.D. shenanigans, on Episode #5 of The Mike & Billy Show!

PODCAST: Mike & Billy - Episode 004 (12/5/12)

Episode #4 starts in the middle of a conversation about wrestling and movies... Mike & Billy had been talking about the WWE, which lead to a discussion about the movie Ready To Rumble. This had been going on for about 30 minutes when then decided to hit record and officially start the show.

They finish the conversation about the awfulness that was Ready To Rumble, and move on to the awesomeness that is Bill Murray. The newest in the long list of shenanigans that Bill has pulled, is calling Harold Ramis at 3am to tell him that he would do Ghostbusters 3. This takes us down the long and winding road of movies... from AMC editing Smokey and the Bandit for TV, the unnecessary sequels for National Lampoon's Vacation and A Christmas Story, the pile of garbage that is Charles Grodin's body of work (except for Midnight Run), 20 years of Quentin Tarantino, Jonah Hill possibly ruining at least part of Django Unchained, which somehow gets us to talking about the show Dave's Old Porn and Mike tweeting with Adult Film Legend - Vanessa del Rio.

The reason the Show was off last week was because Mike took a vacation down to Walt Disney World. Well while down there, Mike got engaged! He fills us in on the romantic proposal, right in front of Cinderella's Castle, as well as his antics while "Drinking 'round the World" in EPCOT, and getting tweets from THEE Roseanne.

All that and much, much more on Episode #4 of The Mike & Billy Show!

PODCAST: Mike & Billy - Episode 003 (11/20/12)

Episode III "The Revenge of the 'Stache" gets off an running with Mike introducing Billy to a new English slang word, "Bumflufferies." The word comes from the great British Crime flick, Sexy Beast, starring Ben Kingsley, Ray Winstone and Ian McShane. (a must watch if you haven't seen it)

Mike slept through his alarm Tuesday morning and they talk about how waking up late for work is one of the worst, panic-inducing feelings you can experience.

Mike's phone was stolen, and he had to change every password he has in the world... which leads the guys into the topic of internet passwords, account hacking and the mobile phone security in general is discussed.

With Thanksgiving only days away Billy shares his plans and family traditions around the holiday... as well as his girlfriend's enthusiasm for making Halloween costumes.

And with every Thanksgiving comes Black Friday... Neither Mike nor Billy are fans but Billy has some real hatred towards this national shopping day.

Mike having worked security for years used to have a slightly different outlook on Black Friday, and he shares a couple "war stories" from the days he spent chasing down junkie shoplifters.

They wrap up on a topical note, talking about how the Twinkee craze of the last week could be one of the greatest marketing cons ever!

All that and much more A.D.D. radio shenanigans...

(Recorded: Tues. Nov. 20, 2012)

PODCAST: Mike & Billy - Episode 002 (11/13/12)

Episode #2 starts with Mike & Billy discussing a car accident that happened outside the studio moments before they sat down to record. Apparently Billy was looking to fill his Karma quota for the month by checking on the driver and bringing him into the station until the police arrived.

Mike was in a wedding over the weekend and is running down the shenanigans that occurred. He also explains how dealing with Hangover Recovery has changed as he's gotten older, "Gronk spiking" a flask during the wedding party's introduction, and getting locked out of his hotel room... which leads them into talking about hotels in general and the aggravation of travel. In particular the trouble with trying to cross the Canadian border when visiting Montreal.

Mike and Billy then get into TV & Movie talks... covering South Park and the work ethic of the creators, as shown in the documentary 6 Days To Air.

Billy made the claim that "Wilfred is a perfect show" and Mike wants him to clarify that statement. Which takes them in to a discussion about how superior the shows of FX are when compared to what the networks are putting out.

All that and so much more... Enjoy!

(Recorded: Tues. Nov. 13, 2012)

Tuesday, November 13, 2012

PODCAST: Mike & Billy - Episode 001 (11/7/12)

On the very first episode The Mike & Billy Show, the guys cover a variety of topics... including the Presidential Election, the first snow fall of the year and how absurd people act during any amount of inclement weather.

Mike brings up giving out Halloween candy this year, how there was no such thing as "food allergies" when they were kids, and the possibility of a generation of "Bubble Boys"

They also discuss a number of movies... such as the work of Rob Zombie, taking Mike's mother to Natural Born Killers, and the HIGHLY anticipated sequel to Showgirls!

and so much more...

New Fantasyland Update: Grand Opening Date!

Ever since the announcement came out, more than a year ago, that Fantasyland would be getting a major expansion the #1 question on every Walt Disney World visitor's mind has been, "When will we be able to experience the New Fantasyland for ourselves?"  Well the fine folks at Magic Kingdom have finally answered that burning question for us.

Wednesday, August 8, 2012

New Fantasyland Update: Classic Meet & Greet at Pete’s Silly Sideshow

One of the bigger curiosities about the New Fantasyland expansion has been what the Walt Disney Imagineers were planning to do with the two big-top tents (left over from Mickey's Toontown Fair) in the Storybook Circus area.  Well they've given us an answer, for at least one of the tents.  One tent will house Pete’s Silly Sideshow character meet & greet, a place where guests can meet some of their favorite Disney characters in their "Circus Star" personas.

New Fantasyland Update: Gaston's Statue

As someone who has always rooted for the bad guy in films, I openly admit when it comes to Beauty and the Beast, I've always been a fan of Gaston.  So the latest photo released by Walt Disney Imagineering has me pretty excited.

EPCOT 30th Anniversary Merchandise Preview

EPCOT's anniversary is always a little bit more special to me then possibly most people, since it also marks the anniversary of my first trip to Walt Disney World.  So this fall's celebration of the 30th anniversary of EPCOT is one I’m definitely looking forward to.  It's all going to kick off on October 1, 2012 and Disney has been releasing images of some merchandise they'll be releasing to commemorate the occasion.

New Fantasyland Update: Portraits at Be Our Guest Restaurant & Gaston’s Tavern

Be Our Guest Restaurant and Gaston’s Tavern are easily the most eagerly anticipated restaurants on the Walt Disney World plate right now, and every piece of information about their progress in the Magic Kingdom’s New Fantasyland expansion is definitely sparking a huge amount of interest.

Well they fine folks at Disney have given us a few more tidbits to chew on.

WWE Lets The "ECW" Trademark Expire

I just read a interesting story... it's not mind blowing, but definitely interesting.

Apparently WWE has let the trademark of the three letter term "ECW" expire.  It has already been scooped up by a company in New York, specifically to be used for wrestling.

That being said "Extreme Championship Wrestling" will always be a property of WWE.  The company from New York will only be able to use the 3 letters.

Like I said, it's not the craziest story I've ever read, but it's just kind of odd that they would do that.

Today in WDW History: Splash Mountain Turns 20

July 17th is a pretty big day in Disney History.  This post is going to be focused on the 20th Anniversary of Splash Mountain opening in the Magic Kingdom.  But I wouldn't be a respectable Disney Enthusiast if I didn't mention the 57th Anniversary of Disneyland opening in California on this day in 1955.  It was, after all, the park that started it all.  I've always been more partial towards WDW, mostly due to geography, but one definite thing that California will always have over Florida is that it's the park that Walt actually stepped foot in.  And that's pretty huge, if I do say so myself.

Now, on to that 52-foot drop into the Briar Patch...

“Arrested Development” Starts Shooting in a Month

It’s happening. It’s really, really happening.  Yes, I am absolutely doing a silly happy dance over this news!

Now I admit the fact that 10 new episodes of “Arrested Development” are in the works isn’t really news, but that doesn't mean I don't get a little more excited every time I get a glimmer of the new TV series (and possibly movie) actually becoming a reality.

Free Disney Dining Plan for Fall 2012

Walt Disney World has released the Free Disney Dining Plan offer to all guests staying at a Disney Resort between the dates specified below.  I actually called today and upgraded my reservation in November, at no extra charge... which is always a huge bonus!

New Fantasyland Update: Prince Eric’s Castle

One of the coolest things about the New Fantasyland expansion, and one of the aspects I'm most looking forward to seeing when I visit the Magic Kingdom this fall, is that Walt Disney Imagineering (WDI) is adding two brand new Disney castles... Beast’s Castle, which will be the home to Be Our Guest Restaurant, and Prince Eric’s Castle, which will serve as the backdrop to the Under the Sea - Journey of The Little Mermaid attraction.

New Fantasyland Update: Chef of Be Our Guest Reveals the Menu

As we get closer and closer to the opening of more sections in the New Fantasyland (Storybook Circus began opening back in March and completed twith the second Flying Dumbo taking to the air a couple weeks ago) we are finding out more great details about the upcoming attractions.  One of the attractions I'm most excited to see is the Be Our Guest restaurant, that will be located in Beast's Castle and will encompass three separate dining areas... the ballroom, gallery, and mysterious West Wing of the castle.

Walt Disney World Reopenings & Closings (for refurbishment)

There has been one big reopening and a few upcoming closings for refurbishment around Walt Disney World.

Let's start with the big reopening...  After six month of refurbishing Big Thunder Mountain Railroad has reopened with a couple changes.  As you approach the Frontierland attraction, you'll notice that the Fast Pass and Stand-By entrances have been switched.  The Stand-By queue has been lengthened by quite a bit leaving open the possibility of additional props to be added to the waiting area.  I'm looking forward to taking a trip on the Railroad myself, but I've read from those that have rode it since the reopen and the consensus is that the ride is much smoother.

Today in WDW History: WEDWay PeopleMover Opened

The PeopleMover definitely holds a special spot in my heart.  I have very few actual memories from my first visit to Walt Disney World.  It was 1983 and I was 4-years-old, so pictures and family movies have been my main source of memory recall.  But there is one very distinct memory forever burned in my brain, and it was my Grandfather's reaction to Space Mountain.  He was a great sport to come along on the thrill ride with me.  So being the good Grandson that I am, after shaking him up on Space Mountain I was more than willing to dial down the intensity for the next attraction.  The WEDway PeopleMover was just what the doctor ordered.  Not only did it give my Grandparents a breather from the the thrills of chasing a little me around the Magic Kingdom, but it peaked the interest of the budding sightseer in me being able to tour around Tomorrowland.

Bruins agree to multi-year deals with Kelly & Campbell

Despite Tim Thomas not returning next season, the Bruins are moving forward to  guarantee that most of their 2011 Stanley Cup winning core will be back, and for several years.

As reported by TSN, on Monday the Boston Bruins have agreed to terms with forwards Chris Kelly and Gregory Campbell on multi-year contract extensions.  Peter Chiarelli has made it a priority to keep as much of the championship core intact as possible.

These signings mean the Bruins will have 16 players from the 2011 Championship team back next season, with eight of them secured through 2014-15.

The Hangover 3 is Heading Back to Vegas by way of Tijuana

You can call it "going full circle," or "returning to the scene of the crime," or "unfinished business."  But before all that don't forget to find a valid excuse to get a donkey show in the final act of your flick...

Do I have your attention now? Good.  Because that seems to be exactly what Todd Philips and the infamous Wolf Pack are saying as they start filming the third, and reportedly final, installment in The Hangover franchise later this month.

Saying Goodbye to Snow White's Scary Adventure (New Fantasyland Update)

With construction about to begin on Princess Fairytale Hall, a royal meet-and-greet area in New Fantasyland, we unfortunately will be saying goodbye to another "Opening Day Attraction."  The Princess Fairytale Hall will be located on the site that has been a home to the Snow White’s Scary Adventures attraction since October 1, 1971.  Snow White's final day of operation will be May 31.  But before the Princesses move into their new home, let's take a look back at the departing attraction.

Tarantino might be calling in some favors on Django Unchained

Several minutes of Quentin Tarantino's 8th directorial effort, Django Unchained, were shown at the Cannes Film Festival on Monday, and the response has been overwhelmingly positive.  As if we all weren’t already excited enough for Quentin's first film since Inglorious Basterds, many of the press who got to see the footage from the movie have been saying that it's Tarantino at his finest.

That’s all well and good, but it seems like ol' QT might have a few tricks up his sleeves as well.  In a conversation with Deadline following the screening of the footage, Harvey Weinstein said that Django Unchained will be in production for another month and "may be adding a couple of 'surprise' co-stars."  Let the speculation begin!

New Fantasyland Update: Beauty and the Beast's Areas

I recently revisited the 1991 Disney Animated Classic, Beauty and the Beast, by adding the 3D Blu-ray set to my film library.  I'll be doing a detailed review at a later time.  But I can tell you this, it looks absolutely beautiful.  The entire time I was watching the movie I kept thinking about the Fantasyland expansion happening over at the Magic Kingdom.  Specifically whenever the Beast's castle would appear on screen, since that was the most prominent object I could see over the construction walls when I last visited Disney World back in February.  The likeness is uncanny to it's animated source material.

The time frame that the show is set in is between the original TRON film and the 2010 sequel TRON: Legacy.  The visual style and music cues are more along the lines of the latter.

“Carbon-Freeze Me” comes to Walt Disney World for Star Wars Weekends 2012

Let me just start by saying... THIS IS AWESOME!

As a kid, and still as an adult, I'm a huge Star Wars fan.  I've seen the movies countless times, had a army of toys when I was younger, and was even C-3PO for Halloween when I was six-years-old (home-made costume, not some cheaply made store bought one).  My favorite of the films always has, and always will be The Empire Strikes Back.

So naturally I was overly excited to here of the possibility of having my own likeness frozen in carbonite, like Han Solo in the film.  Well I have the fine folks at Disney to thank for making it a reality.

Beginning May 18, 2012 guests attending the Star Wars Weekends at Walt Disney World will have a chance to be captured by Darth Vader, frozen in carbonite, and mounted inside Jabba the Hutt’s palace.

Well "grand style" is exactly what the Walt Disney Imagineers are going for with the Beauty and The Beast section of New Fantasyland in the Magic Kingdom.

A New "Pirates of the Caribbean" Attraction at Walt Disney World

Over the past couple weeks there have been rumors and rumblings about a new pirate-themed attraction coming to Walt Disney World.  Well, they have officially confirmed that The Legend of Captain Jack Sparrow will be opening this fall at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Details are slowly coming out, but it sounds like the attraction will be some kind of virtual world type of ride.  It will give visitors to the park a chance to become immersed in the world of the four “Pirates of the Caribbean” films.

Arrested Development Watch: Always Money In The Banana Stand

Arrested Development creator Mitch Hurwitz has revealed more details about the show's upcoming fourth season, which will premiere exclusively on Netflix sometime early next year.

The entire 10-Episode 4th Season will be hitting Netflix all at once, on the SAME DAY.  Hurwitz said, "There's going to be some mystery sprinkled throughout this, but instead of watching one a week and try to get ahead of it... the hope is that fans will watch them all together and then go back and look for clues and connections."

No specific release date has been announced, but production is set to begin this summer.

Guns N’ Roses Alumni Perform at 2012 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame

Memebers of the original Guns N’ Roses lineup, and two other alumni, got together for a three song set at the 2012 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony tonight (April 14, 2012).

Duff McKagan, Slash, ‘Use Your Illusion’-era drummer Matt Sorum and guitarist Gilby Clarke kicked things off with a rendition of ‘Mr. Brownstone.’

Then original drummer Steven Adler took over for the next two songs, ‘Sweet Child O’ Mine’ and ‘Paradise City.’

Slash’s current bandmate Myles Kennedy handled vocal duties with a little help from Green Day‘s Billy Joe Armstrong on the first number.  Kennedy filled in as nicely as could be expect, if you couldn’t get Axl Rose, who is still performing under the Guns N’ Roses name.

Rose, in classic Axl-fashion chose not to attend the festivities via a much-discussed open letter.  Original guitarist Izzy Stradlin also opted out of the fray, as did long-time and current keyboardist Dizzy Reed.

The Art of Vacationing starring Goofy

I normally don't cover the happenings and goings-on at Disneyland, but I saw this on the Disney Parks YouTube page and thought it was a pretty cool video short.  Inspired by decades of “Art of” and “How To” animated shorts featuring Goofy, Disney has produced an amusing live action short entitled “The Art of Vacationing,” following “the common traveler” experiencing the Disneyland Resort.
